Dearest Beloveds,
It is that time again which, for some of us, is the best time of year but for many brings much dread. Be easy and kind with yourself and others and remember - not everyone feels joyous; for many it brings up feelings of loss and grief for the people they have lost or for dreams not yet answered.
I do love Christmas (at last, since I dropped my perfectionism down a notch) but I still loath the waste.
This isn’t new, I’ve always felt like this. I grew up in a house full of girls, hand-me-downs have always been a big feature. As have sharing bath water and generally being aware of not being wasteful. There was definitely a ‘waste not want not’ attitude running throughout my childhood.
I don’t remember feeling like I ever missed out: we had a pretty old fashioned up- bringing - putting on Pelham puppet shows, writing up a programme and charging a small entrance fee. My little sister alway let me have the starring roles and left herself with the witch’s cat or the village dog whilst I played the wizard or the princess!
Now in my adulthood, for Christmas I like to buy from small businesses, or, for people who have everything, consumables like food. Things that will be kept forever, items that benefit the person’s health and items that are easily incorporated into the recipients home or lifestyle. An experience is also always a good idea.
At the moment I am really loving these things for gift ideas:
* Sonia Bicker: a woolwitch, shaman, wild woman who is honouring the old ways. Collecting wool, hand dyeing and spinning it before turning it into a beautiful creation
* WAX Atelier: for beautiful candles, candelabras and sconcesÂ
* Cannon Photos: for beautiful images of London, landscapes and the South of France
* You Are The Medicine: my Medicine cards and book to assist with personal growth and healing or for use with clients; with the aim of finding the medicine withinÂ
Take it easy, stay well.
Love,
Emma x
P.S. I have had two people drop out of my Kitchen Table session tomorrow (Saturday 9th) due to health reasons. If you want to join last minute I’m happy to give you a discount.
